One of the latest projects out of local think tank, The Collaboratory, is a relationship-based talent attraction initiative called Dayton Homecoming. Unlike a typical government-based initiative, Dayton Homecoming relies on local family members and friends to share its in-development resources and events geared towards the excitement and support of moving folks back. *Chef’s kiss.* Local chef, Elizabeth Valenti, won second place in the International Italian Sandwich Competition that took place in Las Vegas. When Valenti is not out winning national honors, she is the executive chef and partner at Wheat Penny Oven and Bar in Dayton. Check out the full story here.

CHICKEN RESTAURANT OWNED BY SHAQ COMING TO DAYTON

Slam dunk. NBA legend, Shaquille O’ Neal, is the founder of Big Chicken restaurant, which is launching a Dayton-area location in Austin Landing. Representatives from Austin Landing say the restaurant is set to open in the next 90 days. More here.

DAYTON RIVERFRONT PLANS FOR NEW PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

Let’s take the scenic route. The Dayton Riverfront Plan has some exciting renovations planned for the riverfront area. One of these plans includes expanding an existing park, creating a new park, and creating a bridge between the two. The bridge, named “The Unity Bridge,” would have green-spaces, benches, and other amenities for park-goers to enjoy. Stroll on over to the full story here.​

Roll out the red carpet. Jamee Ranta, Dayton native and 2004 graduate from Stebbins High School, was nominated for her first Grammy as producer of Justin Bieber’s music video “Peaches.” Ranta has also won MTV VMA and BET Best Video awards for her work on Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” video and Cardi B’s “WAP” video featuring Megan Thee Stallion.
