DAYTON FUNDS OVER $230,000 FOR BROADBAND SERVICES

The city of Dayton, Ohio has announced plans to allocate $235,906 of its money provided by the American Rescue Plan to help pay for broadband services. The city will grant the money to Apex Advanced Technology LLC. This money is to be used for the purpose of improving the quality of Internet access in the local Dayton area. The project will also serve a variety of other community needs, including digital literacy training and public access to community hubs. Check out the full story here.
SINCLAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE ANNOUNCES PLANS TO HOLD “MANUFACTURING BOOT CAMP” EVENT

Sinclair Community College will hold two “Manufacturing Boot Camp” events during the month of September. The camps are geared towards people who are considering pursuing careers in manufacturing. The event is free for all attendees. The first boot camp was held in Dayton in August, with seven students completing the course. More here.
CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION AT MIAMI UNIVERSITY

One of the three featured exhibitions on display this fall at Miami University Art Museum and Sculpture Park is “A Lens For Freedom: Civil Rights Photographs by Steve Schapiro.” The exhibition will be on view through early December. In the 1960s, Schapiro’s camera captured some of the most iconic moments of the civil rights movement. Schapiro was also one of the leading photographers to document the historic 1964 Freedom Summer Campaign. Original story here.
LOCAL RESTAURANT TO COMPETE IN NATIONAL WING FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND

Archers, an American-style restaurant and bar with two locations in the Dayton area, is competing at the National Buffalo Wing Festival in New York this Labor Day weekend. According to America’s Best Restaurants, the festival is known as the “Super Bowl” of the chicken wing industry. Read more here.
WILDERNESS RESCUE WORKSHOP TO TAKE PLACE IN TROY

Andy Niekamp, founder of the Dayton Hikers warns of some scary scenarios that can take place when hikers and backpackers venture into remote environments, like “someone in your group develops shortness of breath and complains about chest pain. You look at your cell phone and don’t have cell service.” This is one of the many situations to be addressed in Niekamp’s wilderness workshops. The two-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course will take place September 24-25 at Lost Creek Reserve in Troy. Learn more here.
