Comedian and Dayton native Jerrel Beamon performed at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City as part of the Apollo Comedy Club. He competed against other up-and-coming comedians for a chance to win a spot in a future Apollo Theater show. The Apollo has been a historic venue for African-American performers, and is known for its "Amateur Night" where aspiring entertainers can showcase their talents. Sinclair Community College recently held its annual TechFest event, which aims to inspire young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Mikesell's, a well-known snack food company based in Dayton, Ohio, is closing its manufacturing plant and laying off 155 employees. The company, which has been in business for over 100 years, cites increased competition and changing consumer preferences as reasons for the closure. Recently, however, Mikesell's reached a deal to outsource its recipes and production to a co-packer, Conn’s in Zanesville, and will continue to sell its products through distributors and retailers soon.
