GREENE COUNTY NATIVE TIES UFC KNOCKOUT RECORD
LOCALLY GROWN

Matt Brown, a mixed martial artist from just outside of Xenia, Ohio, has tied the UFC record for the most knockouts with 13. Brown achieved the feat in a fight over the weekend. He has been competing in the UFC since 2008 and has a record of 27 wins and 18 losses. Brown’s Nickname is “The Immortal” because he survived an overdose before becoming a professional mixed martial artist. Check out the full story here.
DOWNTOWN miamisburg to get new gelato shop
FOOD & DRINK
A new gelato shop called Tom & Dot's is set to open in downtown Miamisburg. The shop will offer 16 different flavors of gelato made with locally sourced ingredients, along with sorbet, coffee, and Italian sodas. Kathy Klein, who owns the shop with her husband, Gregg, said the name is in tribute to her grandparents, Tom and Dot McGrath, who owned an A&W Root Beer Stand in Indiana. The Kleins plan to open the shop in early June. More here.
MIAMI VALLEY URBAN LEAGUE AWARDS GRANTS TO 10 LOCAL ORGS

The Miami Valley Urban League has announced the recipients of its Empowerment Grants, which aim to support programs that address economic and social disparities in the Dayton region. The grants were awarded to 10 local organizations. The grant money will be used for a variety of programs, such as job training, entrepreneurship education, and financial literacy classes. UD grad launches acai bowl food truck
FOOD & DRINK
Springfield native and UD alum, Jillian Tedeschi, is planning to open a food truck that specializes in acai bowls called Blended By J. The bowls will feature different combinations of fruits and nuts, granola, and honey, and will be available in regular and large sizes. Tedeschi is currently working on renovating the truck, and she plans to open in June. See the full story here.
two major local ORGS Partner to Help People with Disabilities Find Employment

Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley was given a $35,000 grant from local giant healthcare org, CareSource to help people with disabilities find employment. The grant will provide job training, coaching, and support services to people with disabilities in the Dayton area and is part of CareSource's $2.55 million donation to Easterseals in late 2022. LOCAL TECH FIRM BAGS $138M AIR FORCE CONTRACT
BUSINESS

General Dynamics has won a $138M contract from the U.S. Air Force. This single-award contract was the result of a competitive source-selection acquisition. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, is overseeing the contracting activity. The contract is expected to create more hires in the area. Learn more here.
