NEW ANIME-THEMED RESTAURANT TO OPEN IN BEAVERCREEK

Beavercreek will soon welcome a new Japanese establishment to its dining scene. Co-owner Adam Smith, who also owns and operates Original 151 and Nani, plans to open an anime-themed restaurant, called Izakaya, at the Fairfield Commons mall in mid-June. It will offer a unique menu of Japanese-style small plates, sushi, and drinks and feature both indoor and outdoor seating. Learn more here.
LOCAL DISTILLERY RELEASES BOURBON, FIRST IN REGION SINCE PROHIBITION

Belle of Dayton, a local distillery in Dayton, Ohio, has released a new bourbon - the first bourbon made in the area since Prohibition. The release is of Detrick Fine Whiskies Single Barrel Bourbon Batch 001. The bourbon features “a distinct burnish color with a nose of vanilla, espresso, nutmeg, cinnamon toast, heath bar, leather, dried apricots and oak.” Bottle pick-up is Tuesday through Saturday during normal business hours at the Van Buren Room inside the Belle of Dayton Distillery or online. MIAMI UNIVERSITY INDUCTS RAMS' SEAN MCVAY TO 'CRADLE OF COACHES'
LOCALLY GROWN
Miami University, located in Oxford, Ohio, has produced many successful football coaches earning it the nickname "Cradle of Coaches" for turning out a number of legendary football coaches, including Paul Brown, Weeb Ewbank, Woody Hayes, Ara Parseghian, Bo Schembechler and several others over the years. This year it inducted Sean McVay, the current head coach of the Los Angeles Rams. McVay played football at Miami and was part of the team that won a conference championship in 2003. After graduation, he began his coaching career as an assistant at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McVay has since become one of the youngest head coaches in NFL history and led the Rams to the Super Bowl in 2019. Check out the full story here.

DAYTON CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL TO OPEN NEW CENTER FOR PEDIATRIC MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES

Governor Mike DeWine will attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Dayton Children's Hospital's Center for Pediatric Mental Health Resources. The center will provide comprehensive care for children with mental health issues, including counseling, medication management, and group therapy. The center is set to open in 2024 and will have both inpatient and outpatient services. The new center is part of Dayton Children's Hospital's ongoing commitment to improving access to mental health services for children in the Miami Valley. More here.
OVER 50 KIND OF TACOS TO BE FEATURED AT SECOND TACO FEST

The second annual "Real Taco Fest" is set to take place in Cincinnati on May 13 at Smale Riverfront Park. The festival will feature over 50 different types of tacos from 17 local restaurants, food trucks, and vendors. There will be chicken, steak, pork and fish tacos available. More than half of the vendors will offer vegetarian options and many will have gluten free items. In addition to tacos, the festival will have live music and various types of margaritas. TIPP CITY RESIDENT WINS FLYING PIG MARATHON
FEEL GOOD

Jason Salyer, a Tipp City resident, won the Flying Pig Marathon, held in Cincinnati, Ohio, on May 7. Salyer finished the marathon in 2 hours, 21 minutes, and 39 seconds. The Flying Pig Marathon is one of the largest marathons in the country, with over 20,000 participants. The marathon takes runners through several Cincinnati neighborhoods and over the Ohio River into Kentucky. Original story here.
