DAYTON HUMAN RELATIONS COUNCIL CELEBRATES 60 YEARS OF SERVICE

The Dayton Human Relations Council (HRC) is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Throughout its history, the HRC has worked to ensure a culture of fair treatment, inclusion, and equal opportunity. On Thursday, November 17th, the Dayton Human Relations Council will be hosting a Know Your Rights event where Dayton residents can learn more about their rights and responsibilities when interacting with law enforcement. The free event will be held at the Dayton Metro Library Main Branch and will feature HRC staff, a lawyer to discuss your rights during police encounters, and Dayton PD officers to present to talk about what to do when interfacing with law enforcement. HISTORIC DOWNTOWN DISTRICT GETTING NEW APARTMENTS

Wright Dunbar Inc. development firm announced their next project downtown: the Marietta Flats Building at 1148 W. Third St. The three-story building, which hasn't seen any activity since around the 80s, was last a pawn shop. The building has eight apartments on its top floor and two retail spaces on the first floor which the firm is renovating. Check out the full story here.
centerville's woodland lights celebrates 30 years

Woodland Lights in Centerville will be open Friday through Sunday until Nov. 27, Thursday through Sunday starting on Dec. 1 and open nightly from Dec. 15 through Dec. 23. Visiting hours will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with gates closing at 8:30 p.m. According to a release, “visitors can expect to take part in events, such as seeing lights, Santa Claus in his cabin, a petting zoo, and so much more!” Learn more here.
wizard of za opens on brown street

A Sicilian-style pizza shop, Wizard of Za, is opening Tuesday, Nov. 15 on Brown Street in the space where Zombie Dogz used to be. Paceline Restaurant Partners, which owns and operates FUSIAN and Hunny Bee’s Crispy Fried, purchased The Wizard of Za in October 2021. Full story here.
DBJ announces the 2022 dayton businesses of the year

This past Thursday evening the Dayton Business Journal’s (DBJ) Business of the Year awards banquet was held at the Schuster Center in downtown Dayton. Honorees were selected by a combination of guest judges and the DBJ Editorial Board. kettering once again hosted national a capella festival

The Kettering National A Cappella Festival returned this weekend for the first time since autumn 2019. High school and college a cappella groups flocked to Fairmont High School for classes and public performances alongside national act Six Appeal in the school’s auditorium this past Friday and Saturday. 'taste of jamaica' opens brick and mortar in west dayton

The popular pop-up serving authentic Jamaican cuisine has moved into its first brick-and-mortar location in West Dayton. Located at 100 N. James H. McGee Blvd., the restaurant is open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday for dine-in, delivery via third-party services, and pick up. There are also plans to add a Jamaican-style bar and host weekly events geared towards Jamaican culture. Learn more here.
