Two puppies from the Humane Society of Greater Dayton were featured in the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet which was shown to viewers across the country and a hit with animal lovers of all ages. The puppies representing Dayton were Juniper and Nugget, who played for Team Fluff against Team Ruff in the three-hour matchup. See the original story here.

OHIO TAKES FIRST STEP TO EXPAND PASSENGER RAIL​
COMMUNITY

Ohio is taking the first step to get the federal government on board with expanding passenger rail in the state. The state has made a request for funding to improve existing rail infrastructure and add new rail service. The goal is to make it easier for residents to travel between Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati, as well as Cleveland through Toledo to Detroit. Check out the full story here.

Dayton native and wine director at Sueño and Tender Mercy, Lauren Gay, is opening a new wine spot in downtown Dayton, offering a unique experience for wine lovers called Joui (pronounced Joy). The spot will feature a selection of wine, beer and cocktails, along with light bites. The location is still under construction but is expected to open in the near future. Learn more here.

trumpet legend wynton marsalis leads free concert for local students

Trumpet legend Wynton Marsalis held a free concert for local students in Dayton last Thursday in Springfield. Marsalis, a multiple Grammy Award winner and Pulitzer Prize for Music recipient, performed with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for an estimated crowd of 1,360 students from as far as Columbus and Cincinnati at the Clark State Performing Arts Center (PAC). The show was presented by the Springfield Symphony Orchestra (SSO) and was a great opportunity for students to experience live music and learn more about jazz. Full story here.
