PUFF, PUFF, BILL PASS
business
A new Ohio bill written by state Sen. Steve Huffman (R-Tipp City) could make medical marijuana cheaper and better available to treat more conditions. Additionally, legal cultivators in Ohio could expand their growing operations by thousands of square feet for increased production. More product means lower prices. “The bill’s all about business,” Huffman said. “We’re trying to bring free market principles to a highly regulated business.” Get high on more information here.

But make it badass. $88 million in funding was awarded to the University of Dayton Research Institute by the Air Force Research Laboratory to research and develop Air Force autonomous capabilities such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, neural networks, and more. These applications can be used in the Air Force for intelligence, cyber security, surveillance and reconnaissance, and command and control systems. In other words, some pretty heady stuff. Mark Twain once said, “Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough.” It’s a shame he won’t be in Dayton this weekend. New Dayton Barrel Works flavors will be released as well. Tickets are $50 for general admission and $75 for VIP which includes additional special release and rare bourbons to sample. In addition to live music from both local and national recording artists, Lori’s Roadhouse offers a diverse dinner menu as well. There’s even free line-dancing from 7-10 p.m. on Tuesdays. EYES ON THE PRIZE
PHILANTHROPY
Dayton has a Literary Peace Prize (who knew!?) and each year it nominates adult fiction and nonfiction books that “have led readers to a better understanding of other cultures, peoples, religions, and political points of view” for a cash prize. The Literary Peace Prize Foundation just announced that it has hired a new full-time executive director, Nicholas Raines, a Dayton native with over 15 years of experience in community development and engagement, fund raising, team management, and strategic planning. Sounds like the start of a great new chapter to us. Learn more here.
